New scientific papers published!

We’re proud to announce two new scientific publications from our FlashPhos partners Graz University of Technology and University of Stuttgart!

1. CFD modeling of sewage sludge combustion in an experimental entrained flow reactor with integrated slag flow dynamics
This paper presents a new, faster way to simulate slag flow in sewage sludge combustion. This helps recover valuable elements like phosphorus more efficiently – with similar accuracy but a fraction of the computational cost!

2. Computationally inexpensive CFD modeling of sewage sludge and waste additive combustion experiments in an entrained flow reactor
This paper explores how adding materials like meat and bone meal affects sludge combustion. The result? Up to 57% more heat output in some cases – a key insight for process optimization and scale-up.

Both studies rely on advanced CFD modeling and offer valuable contributions to sustainable waste utilization and energy recovery.

A big thank you to the involved authors Benjamin Ortner, Christian Schmidberger, Laura Peham, René Prieler and Christoph Hochenauer for their great work!
