The 7th IWA International Conference on eco-Technologies for Wastewater Treatment was held from 23rd to 26th of June 2025 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The conference aimed to bring together researchers from different disciplines, technology providers, consulting engineering firms, utilities and other relevant societal actors to jointly discuss and explore the latest findings on processes, methods, and technologies for innovative solutions in a Water-Wise World.
Ayumi Schober from FlashPhos project lead University of Stuttgart presented a poster at the conference. Her contribution, titled “Influence of Operational Parameters on Particle Size Reduction of Sewage Sludge in Pilot Thin Film Dryer”, explored how optimizing sludge processing can support more efficient phosphorus recovery, an essential step toward circular wastewater management.
Key takeaway from the conference:
Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) need to develop into Water Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRFs) – shifting the focus from just treating wastewater to also recovering valuable resources like clean water, nutrients, and energy. This aligns closely with the goals of FlashPhos.
Thanks to the ecoSTP community for the insightful discussions and valuable exchange!
