VDI-Fachkonferenz Klärschlammbehandlung
From September 19 – 20, 2023, the 14th VDI Technical Conference “Klärschlammbehandlung” (“Sewage Sludge Treatment”) took place in Mannheim, Germany. The conference covered legal changes, technical solutions, and resource recovery in sewage sludge treatment. It addressed implementing the new sewage sludge ordinance, optimizing anaerobic sludge stabilization and dewatering, and challenges in sustainable phosphorus management. Additionally, it explored technical innovations for dewatering and drying sewage sludge, experiences with sewage sludge mono-incineration, and strategies for phosphorus recycling. The event engaged wastewater professionals in discussions about ordinance implications, plant design, and cooperative models.
VDI Special Day
On September 18, right before the conference, an optional site visit and the VDI Special Day on sludge drying took place. Visitors of the Special Day were provided with an overview of different methods for sewage sludge drying and guidance for selecting the suitable method based on their project requirements. The components and auxiliary systems of sewage sludge drying plants were elucidated. Attendees received insights into potential optimization avenues for sewage sludge drying, along with assistance in evaluating the economic feasibility and safety of drying facilities. Furthermore, participants had the chance to engage in discussions and share experiences within a small group, focusing on practical challenges.
